Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has withdrawn from England’s squad for the opening four matches of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League after suffering a muscle injury.
Palmer was recalled by England manager Thomas Tuchel on Friday, September 18, after missing the Three Lions’ 2026 World Cup squad. However, the 24-year-old will now miss England’s September and October international fixtures.
According to Sky Sports, Palmer withdrew from the squad because of the injury after playing the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 3-0 Premier League defeat to Brentford on Friday.
The forward had made a strong start to the new campaign, scoring four goals and providing two assists in seven appearances for Chelsea before the latest setback.
Tuchel had recalled Palmer as part of eight changes to his squad following the World Cup and said the Chelsea star had “a point to prove” after returning to form.
“Cole has his numbers back. Assists, decisive goals. I think he has a point to prove,” Tuchel said.
Palmer had also recently spoken about his fitness, saying he felt “probably the best” he had in a long time and was working to remain injury-free.
His withdrawal comes just days after his return to the England setup and leaves Tuchel with another adjustment to make to his attacking options ahead of the Nations League campaign.
